Mike developed sets of basics for the tai chi fan for his participants as they start training with the tai chi fan. These basics are intended to get use to having the tai chi fan in your hand, and employing the fan. The first set are strikes with the front end of a closed fan. The second set are strikes with the rear end of a closed fan. The third set are basic blocks with an open fan. The fourth set are flips and catches, both closed and open

Front End Strikes (closed fan)

1) Down to temple

2) Reverse down to temple

3) Cut strike to ribs

4) Reverse cut strike to ribs

5) Circle groin strike

6) Thrust to solar plexus

7) Reinforced thrust to solar plexus

8) Up strike to chin

9) Down strike to forehead

10) Thrust to eyes / bridge of nose

Rear End Strikes (closed fan)

1) Side strike to temple

2) Reverse side strike to temple

3) Side strike to ribs

4) Reverse side strike to ribs

5) Uppercut groin strike

6) Thrust to solar plexus

7) Uppercut to chin

8) Down strike to head

9) Thrust to eyes / bridge of nose

10) Reinforced thrust to eyes /bridge of nose

Blocks

1) Vertical chest

2) Horizontal chest

3) Low

4) High

5) Over head

6) Slow vertical

7) Parry

8) Walk the circle

9) Inside

10) Reverse low

Flips and Catches

1) Half flip same hand

2) Flip under to opposite hand

3) Toss to opposite hand

4) Behind back toss to opposite hand / Toss to opposite hand

5) Under leg to same hand

6) Behind back / over shoulder to same hand

7) Open lift and catch same hand

8) Flip and catch same hand

9) Behind back pass with open half flip to opposite hand

10) Full circle flip same hand
